I hope that the stars keep you safe,
the moon to wrap you in its warmth.
Sleep well tonight, may this love protect you.
“Why don’t you just confess to her directly?”
His smile faded, only to be replaced by a thin line.
“I don’t want to ruin everything we’ve built.”
She grunted in response, “When will you ever put yourself first? Rather than continuously leaving her anonymous messages, you should have just revealed yourself.”
He sighed in defeat, a weak smile plastered on his face. His eyes were gazing up to the sky, as if the answer was written there.
“You don’t understand, Mia,” He traced the lines in his palm, silently wishing that that would calm his erratically beating heart.
“Our friendship is something I really hold so dearly. Besides, I don’t really mind for her not knowing it was me.”
Mia frowned at this, her eyebrows meeting in the middle.
“W-what do you mean, Ian?”
He took a deep breath, inhaling the air to his lungs so that it became less hurt.
It was so hard talking about her that it hurt.
He felt like his heart was going to burst out of his chest anytime soon.
“I just want my feelings to be acknowledged, I just want her to know that there’s someone who’s willing to pour out their love for her. She doesn’t have to know it’s me.”
“But what if you did end up together?”
Ian chuckled bitterly, sadness hiding underneath his tone.
“She’s in love with someone else, what are the chances we’re going to be together?”
Mia was about to argue, hands curled into fists but the silence took over her.
He grinned, raising his hand to pat her head. She turned to face him and she could see the pain in his eyes despite him trying to smile.
“It’s okay, Mia. At least, I finally did let it out of my chest. I don’t have to carry the regret of not telling my feelings for her.”
“I just- don’t want you to get hurt all over again.”
“It’s fine, really.”
He turned his attention back to the phone screen, fingers typing the last message.
“I’m happy just by loving her from far.”
Someday my feelings will be the words you can read before you,
Someday my love will fill in the puzzle in your mind,
Someday my heart will be in your hands,
And when that happens,
I do not ask you to reciprocate it.
I only ask of you not to throw it away.
And I’m in love with you, sorry.
